  • Animals in the Antarctic Ice

Animals in the Antarctic Ice The wildlife of Antarctica are extremophiles, having to adapt to the dryness, low temperatures, and high exposure common in Antartica. The extreme weather of the interior contrasts to the relatively mild conditions on the Antarctic Peninsula and the subantarctic islands, which have warmer temperatures and more liquid water. Much of the ocean around the mainland is covered by sea ice. The oceans themselves are a more stable environment for life, both in the water column and on the seabed. The Antarctic ice sheet is one of the two polar ice caps of the Earth. It covers about 98% of the Antarctic continent and is the largest single mass of ice on Earth. It covers an area of almost 14 million square km and contains 26.5 million cubic km of ice.[2] That is, approx...

This is actually very comparable to the Sahara Desert In wintertime, the sea ice around Antarctica grows at the rate of 40,000 square miles a day. Only 2 percent of the continent is actually exposed Antarctica's ice is so heavy that it deforms the South Pole In fact, its weight makes the Earth look slightly pear shaped Antarctica holds the top spot for the lowest recorded temperature on Earth, which was -129°F (-84.5°C) at the Russian Vostok station in 1983. At this temperature steel will shatter and water will explode into ice crystals. Nature's power is seldom seen as ferocious as it is in Antarctica, making this one of the most inhospitable places on earth. The continent experiences regular Katabatic (downhill) winds, reaching 300 km per hour (185 miles/hour), that blow out of the continental interior The first people to reach the South Pole were from the Norwegian-led expedition of Roald Amundsen on December 14, 1911 One month later, Robert Scott's British expedition also reached 90 South but all members tragically died on their attempted return journey Prior to this, speculation over the existence of a "southern land" was not confirmed until the early 1820s Following World War II, there was an upsurge in scientific research on the continent Today seven countries have made territorial claims (Argentina, Australia, Chile, France, New Zealand, Norway and UK), but not all countries, including the USA and Russia, recognise these claims. In order to form a legal framework for the activities of nations on the continent, an Antarctic Treaty was negotiated that neither denies nor gives recognition to existing territorial claims It prohibits any measures of a military nature One of the biggest dangers to researchers and others living on the continent is actually fire. The dry environment makes it very possible and hard to stop. Antarctica is the largest wilderness area on Earth Antarctica contains 90% of the world's ice During summer more radiation reaches the South Pole than the equator. This is because the hole in the ozone layer above the Antarctic is the largest on record at 27 million square km The Antarctic Ice Marathon is an annual marathon and 100km run held on an ice sheet in the shadow of the Ellsworth Mountains just a few hundred miles from the South Pole

http://mocomi.com/ presents: Antarctica - the highest, driest, emptiest, coldest place on earth. Over 98% of Antarctica is covered by the unbroken polar ice sheet. If the ice sheet melted, the oceans would rise by around 65 meters. The size of the Antarctic ice sheet doubles every winter. The elevation at the south pole is 9300 feet although the bedrock is only a 100 feet above sea level. It is the driest and coldest place on earth. The lowest recorded temperature in history is -128 degrees F. Antarctica is the 5th largest continent with a population of 0. Antarctica is the only continent with no countries. Samples of ice extracted from the ice sheet give scientists valuable information about the earth’s climate from millions of years ago. Antarctica is the only continent with no indigineous species of animals. NASA just released a study showing that Antarctica is actually gaining ice at a faster rate than it’s losing it. Will this rise in ice help keep global warming at bay? The instrumental record of modern sea level change shows evidence for onset of sea level rise during the 19th century.” ____________________ DNews is dedicated to satisfying your curiosity and to bringing you mind-bending stories & perspectives you won't find anywhere else! Wikileaks Photos, John Kerry Visit and UFOs in Antarctica: Just days after the shocking U.S. presidential election, Secretary of State John Kerry became the highest-ranking U.S. government official to ever set foot on Antarctica (although there are rumors President Obama made a secret visit there earlier this year). http://mysteriousuniverse.org/2016/11/wikileaks-photos-john-kerry-visit-and-ufos-in-antarctica/ Mysterious Antarctica - The World's Best Kept Secret? Part 1 - Why Antarctica is Kept Top Secret? Part 2 - Researcher Discovers a Huge Pyramid in Antarctica Using Satellite Images Part 3 - Amazing German Antarctic Discoveries In 1938 ------------------------------------------------------------------ Part 1 - WHY ANTARCTICA IS KEPT TOP SECRET ? This documentary short is a complex presentation of recent U.S. and Russian visits to Antarctica, the Nazis, and Hollow Earth, including its importance in Nazi Germany before and during WW2, and Antarctica's possible escape route off of the Earth for many Nazi's who mysteriously disappeared after the war without a trace. Few know the truth about Antarctica, as it is an expanse of land that has gone unnoticed for centuries. But not by the Nazis...They knew the truth... The Nazis believed there might have been a civilization inside the Earth. This was the belief of Helena Blavatsky, who profoundly influenced the Nazi's philosophy and esotericism. There is an abundance of evidence to suggest that a theory now considered dumb to most people, the hollow Earth, had an unusual cult following in Nazi Germany. German pop figures and writers also supported this idea, including one writer named Karl Neupert. The Earth was not a solid rock, but was shaped more like a human eyeball, having two portals of entry at the North and South poles and was hollow in the center. An empire was alleged to exist inside the Earth called Agartha. This is where the master race dwells. Why was this? The Nazis did not create the hollow Earth concept. The idea preceded them. Even illuminati members Edgar Allen Poe and Jules Verne alluded in their poetry and prose to such a place, deep underneath the crust. Call it conspiracy, but the Nazi's led three expeditions to Antarctica, and Admiral Richard Byrd, who led Operation Highjump, suggests that "bases" were established in Antarctica by the Nazis. They were doing something down there. Was the continent an escape for them? Now, Obama visited Antarctica in March, and he was preceded by Patriarch Kirill of Russia. Simultaneous to Obama's visit to the South Pole, his director of CIA, James Clapper, made a secret trip to Australia, another country with heavy interest in Antarctica. Kirill offered a strange blessing of Antarctica, calling the barren land an "ideal for human kind" because there were no weapons down there or any type of science experiments. Except, we know that is not true at all: there are multiple scientific expeditions that have gone to Antarctica: this was confirmed in an interview with Richard Byrd, who said that the region would become the center of scientific inquiry directly after WW2. What did he mean by this? It covers an area of almost 14 million square km and contains 26.5 million cubic km of ice.[2] That is, approximately 61 percent of all fresh water on the Earth is held in the Antarctic ice sheet, an amount equivalent to 70 m of water in the world's oceans. In East Antarctica, the ice sheet rests on a major land mass, but in West Antarctica the bed can extend to more than 2,500 m below sea level. The land in this area would be seabed if the ice sheet were not there.
